I love a good day at the races – there’s always such a great atmosphere and plenty of excitement when you place your bets.
And then there’s all the fun of dressing up for Ladies Day!
So, with race season right around the corner, I thought I’d go over some of the fantastic fixtures coming up in Kelso and Musselburgh.
So, if you’ve never been and fancy trying something a wee bit different, read on:
Kelso Race Course
Many of the guests who stay at my Kelso properties come back and tell me what a great time they’ve had at Kelso Race Course.
There’s currently a total of thirteen jumps fixtures coming up this season, starting from September right through ’til May, so if you’re going to be in and around the Kelso area, it’s definitely worth checking out.
The 2016 dates are yet to be finalised, but here are the dates you can look forward to this year:
- Wednesday, 16th September (Twilight)
- Sunday, 4th October
- Saturday, 24th October
- Saturday, 7th November
- Sunday, 6th December
- Tuesday, 29th December
Choose between watching from the Main Grandstand with a Member’s Day Badge, or the Paddock, featuring the new Tweedie Stand with extensive viewing coverage to the front.
The Paddock Enclosure also features the main Betting Ring (bookmakers), the Parade Ring and the Winners Enclosure.
The best bit? Kids under 17 can get entry to the course completely free of charge, so why not make it a fun day out for all the family?
Musselburgh Race Course
The perfect location for those staying in my Haddington property, Musselburgh Race course provides some great action year-round, with a total of 27 race days across the season.
Again Ladies Day is particularly popular here too, and a great excuse to get glammed up, but there’s also the Family race days if you want to take the kids along for a fun day out. There’s also some great dining and hospitality when you’re in the mood for some refreshments.
The incredible atmosphere makes Musselburgh Race Course a must on your to-do list. You can book online right up to midnight prior to each race day, or alternatively tickets can be purchased at the gate on the day.
My husband Derek says you know you’ve had a great day at Musselburgh races when you go out with £80 in your pocket and wake up in the morning with £85, having been at the races all day and then out in Edinburgh all night!
We’re just coming up to flat season in Musselburgh, with jump season starting later, in November.
For a full list of fixtures and dates, check out the official website.
If you’ve ever experienced a day at the races, you’ll know just how much of an exhilarating and fun experience it can be. If you’ve never been, you’re in for a treat this season!
Whether you’re going to be in the Borders or East Lothian, I highly recommend the two courses above for an unforgettable day out – you can even bring the family!
Have you ever been to the races?
