Morebattle Post Office on the move.

Posted by Linda Maclaughlan on 16 December 2010

A consultation is currently being conducted into the future of the Post Office within the village of Morebattle. Post Office limited is proposing to move the service to the village store thereby safeguarding the Post Office service and supporting the viability of the village store. Customers would be able to do their shopping and visit the Post Office at the same time. The service would continue to be operated by the core sub postmaster from the Kelso Post Office and the same range of services currently on offer would be continued. Customers would still be able to collect benefits in cash using the everyday bank account and Post Office card account.

The Post Office will be in operation on a Monday and Thursday between the hours of 9.00am and 11.00am. As there is currently a step at the entrance to the shop a portable ramp will be available to make access easier. A Hearing loop and space for a wheelchair will also be provided. Parking is available outside the store and it would only mean relocating 160 yards or so from the current service.

The Post Office have asked for everyone’s views on proposed opening hours, access and facilities and if there are any local issues specific to Morebattle that they would like the Post Office to consider. The Post Office has stated that they will incorporate any changes into their proposal as a result of comments received where they can. If the plan goes ahead the move should take place in February or March 2011.

Anyone wishing to make any comments on the proposals can contact The Post Office at c/o National Consultation Team, PO Box 2060, Watford, WD18 8ZW or by email: consultation@postoffice.co.uk
