Once you’ve driven uphill from the main square in Melrose, turned into the complex then through the communal grounds, you can normally park right outside the window of The Sweethope. The property has its own main door access. You’ll walk through a lovely patio area – a really lovely spot – to reach the front door.
Open the door and immediately inside you’ll find yourself in the hallway, which is an ideal place to drop your shoes, dog leads etc. – it may also be a good spot to place your pet’s comfy bed (if applicable).
From here, follow the hall round, and on your first left you’ll find the fully-equipped kitchen. Light pours in from a lovely big window in the morning, making the dining area (for four) the ideal place to sit and eat a relaxed breakfast or brunch.
There’s everything you’ll need to make yourself at home!
Back out to the hallway, and opposite the kitchen, you’ll reach the bathroom. Decorated in cheerful yellow, this room features an over-bath shower, toilet, sink and convenient grab rails to assist you – along with the other essentials you’ll need!
Along the hallway, the next left from the kitchen brings you to the double bedroom. The almost floor-to-ceiling length windows are continued in here, allowing there to be loads of light. It’s a lovely, bright room featuring a very generous wardrobe with hanging space a-plenty! It’s also decorated with some lovely personal touches.
Back into the hallway, and directly ahead from the front door and next left, you’ll find the living room, freshly decorated and nicely furnished again with some lovely homely touches. There’s a flat screen TV that comes complete with FreeView, and a DVD player for watching your movie or show of choice!
The couch can be turned into a sofa bed, and there’s room for four people in total in the apartment – so let us know if you’d like the sofa bed made up on arrival. There’s also a single cosy armchair.
You’ll also find an electric stove, so you can be guaranteed to feel cosy on particularly chilly nights! This is a lovely spacious room, again with plenty of light due to the tall windows.
Back outside again, and you can hear nothing but the birds singing in this incredibly peaceful spot. Have a seat in the alfresco dining area, and admire the vast lawn in front of you. You can plot your day here; whether it’s venturing through the town, or walking through the Eildons.
Melrose is a lovely, vibrant town filled to the brim with lots of independent shops, restaurants and cafes – so it’s definitely worth a wander to see what you can find. Explore the town in all its glory, and you’ll come across some interesting and unexpected spots!
There are plenty of places of historical interest to visit in Melrose; the most obvious one being the partially ruined gothic monastery that is St. Mary’s Abbey! However, if you’re into golf, the 9 hole Melrose golf course is literally just five minutes from The Sweethope.
If walking is your thing, there are some great walks right from The Sweethope’s doorstep – including the Eildon Hills in all their glory!
There’s also the home of Sir Walter Scott, a real Roman fort, and Harmony House and Garden to take in – not to mention some fabulous places to cycle (if you decide to bring your bike!).
And if you’re feeling in the mood for a day trip, Tweedbank Station is just five minutes away – where you can easily hop on the train to Edinburgh and explore what Scotland’s capital has to offer (just a 45-minute train ride away!).
